WAAS/LPV Survey

In an effort to enhance General Dynamics Aviation Services’ commitment to offering products and services that meet our customers’ needs, we are conducting a survey to determine the level of interest aircraft operators have in the upgrade of FMS and GPS systems for WAAS/LPV capability.

The following is a brief introduction to WAAS/LPV followed by the short survey.  The survey will take less than five minutes to answer.  Your opinion is valued and greatly appreciated!

Introduction to the WAAS and LPV
The Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) is a GPS-based navigation and landing system that provides the ability to fly LPV (Lateral Performance with Vertical guidance) approaches into thousands of airports and airstrips where there is currently no precision landing capability. LPV is similar to LNAV/VNAV except it is much more precise (40m lateral limit) and enables descent to as low as 200 feet above the runway. 

WAAS/LPV Benefits

  • Access to LPV minimums on RNAV approaches
  • Decision altitudes as low as 200 feet
  • Visibility minimums as low as 1/2 mile
  • Approaches to airports and runways not equipped with ILS approach systems
  • Satellite-based vertical guidance supports highly repeatable, stabilized approaches
  • Flight deck operations for LPV are very similar to those for ILS approaches
  • Consistent approach procedures throughout the year-LPV approaches are not subject to cold temperature limitations.
