Design Team

Armed with interior design degrees and extensive aircraft design experience, our designers apply the cutting-edge ideas and revolutionary materials from the design world to the aircraft industry.

Our analytical approach to problem-solving means your refurbishment will reflect your individual needs, meet your future requirements and exceed your expectations.

In creating a space that reflects your unique sensibilities, GDAS designers will direct you to design choices that are both tasteful and timeless. Whether you desire an entirely new look, with sleek contemporary lines and finishes, or want to retain a vintage feel, using the modern versions of classic aircraft materials, your designer will guide your project through to completion — incorporating classic or modern principles of scale, proportion and color into your refurbished interior.

GDAS designers emphasize the value of a solid floor plan. Functionality is the underlying foundation of our design philosophy — and the mark of GDAS quality. Throughout the refurbishment, the designer serves as the customer’s voice. That’s why the GDAS designer motto is: "We listen."

Trades Team

The GDAS trade shops include sheet metal technicians, upholsterers, trim headliners and PSU (Passenger Service Unit), cabinet builders, finish shop technicians, installation crews and paint detailers. As an industry leader, GDAS attracts and retains talented individuals with aircraft experience; and our apprenticeship programs generate qualified employees trained to GDAS standards. This translates to veneer grains that match seamlessly, carpets installed to retain the integrity of the carpet’s pattern or design, and exceptional attention to detail.

Engineering & Technology

Safety, efficiency and functionality form the foundation of every GDAS refurbishment. Our engineers assess your aircraft at the beginning of every refurbishment, which can save you time and money. They bring to each job their extensive experience, resource capabilities and an immeasurable bank of tried and true designs and certifications. You get the best support and the latest technology possible. Seat reconfigurations and floor-plan modifications as well as custom requests and new avionics installations may require an engineer’s sign-off. As a Designated Alteration Station (DAS) with on-site FAA approval authority, GDAS can provide fast-track certification on relevant projects.

Visit the Design Room

The GDAS Design Room is the creative hub of each refurbishment site. This interactive room is equipped with the tools and samples necessary to turn design ideas into refurbishment realities. Here you and your designer will discuss ideas and review options for colors, textiles, veneers, carpets and finishes.

Touch fabrics, run your fingers over carpet pile, and feel the weight and shape of a brandy snifter, while we keep an eye on your budget. The sample collection alone represents thousands of choices in carpet, leather and fabrics, as well as dining implements, including stemware and china. The inventory is kept up-to-date, with current pricing and availability information.

Feel and inspect the quality of various materials, test seating options, and make educated choices. New product releases are added to the collection as soon as they hit the market. If it’s out there, your GDAS designer is going to know about it. The Design Room’s advanced media system features a large easy-to-view HD screen, enhancing design presentations and allowing for immediate access to aircraft archives, design libraries, photos, renderings and other reference materials. State-of-the-art lighting allows you to view various finishes under different lighting conditions.

Some GDAS customers visit the Design Room only once; others don’t want to leave.

The World’s Finest Materials

GDAS quality starts with the materials. Through our extensive network of suppliers, we acquire the best woods, leather, fabrics and engineered products in the world. Our creative thinking about materials — such as pairing centuries’ old logs with technologically advanced substrates — yield durable, practical and breathtaking results.

Choose from exotic and rare species, exquisite burls and custom cuts. Did you know that GDAS can refurbish your aircraft’s interior using the veneer from a single log? Quite literally, the tree’s history unrolls as its rotational cut, just 1.8 mm thick, creates a lustrous wood-grain surface along custom cabinetry, furniture, bulkheads and doors.

When it comes to leather, GDAS uses exclusively European hides. Most are from Italy’s free-range stock, which are naturally higher quality. Countertops run from solid surfaces to natural stone. Carpet construction varies in pile height, density, weave, color and pattern.

In textiles, the latest designer fabrics, modern weaves and durable fibers can be customized to suit your corporate look or personal taste. We recently added some high-end “green” products, expanding your options.

Finishes and Treatments

We work to make your refurbishment last. Our flame-retardant finishes and treatments protect your investment from stains, scratches and other damage. They can be applied to carpet and fabrics. We recently developed our own UV-resistant, flame-retardant process for veneers. As a customer, you’ll leave GDAS with materials and/or instructions on how to maintain your interior and exterior. If you desire, we’ll arrange to have a vendor representative travel to GDAS for your custom demonstration on specific products. And, as always, GDAS is just a phone call or email away.
