SAVANNAH, Ga., June
20, 2002 - General Dynamics Aviation Services, a wholly owned
subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), today officially opened
a new 25,000 square-foot aircraft service, maintenance and refurbishment
hangar at Dallas Love Field Airport. The addition of this new
hangar nearly doubles the capacity of the current service center.
"The opening of the Dallas service center is
symbolic of the rapid growth that General Dynamics Aviation Services
has undergone during the year and a half since it was launched,"
said Larry Flynn, president, General Dynamics Aviation Services.
"By concentrating on safety and technical training for our
employees, by making parts readily available to our facilities
and by responding quickly and definitively to our customers, General
Dynamics Aviation Services is setting the industry standard for
aircraft service and maintenance operations."
The new hangar, which is dedicated to servicing
Falcon, Challenger and Hawker aircraft, is conveniently located
next door to an existing hangar, where service is performed on
Gulfstream aircraft. Prior to the construction of the new hangar,
General Dynamics Aviation Services leased a hangar a half mile
away from the current site.
"The consolidation of the two hangars is a
significant improvement in our day-to-day operations," said
Flynn. "When necessary, we are now better able to shift technicians,
tools and equipment back and forth between hangars, providing
for a more efficient and flexible workflow that ultimately will
benefit our customers."
In addition to operational
convenience, the new hangar was designed to enhance customer convenience
and comfort. With two conference rooms, seven customer offices
and a lobby seating area, customers have the workspace and tools
necessary to remain productive while their aircraft is being serviced.
General Dynamics Aviation Services' Dallas facility
employs some 100 people who perform inspections, testing and maintenance,
fabricate parts from sheet metal, refurbish interiors, install
avionics equipment and carry out supplemental type certificates.
In 2001, the facility serviced more than 700 aircraft.
