General Dynamics Aviation Services Launches Initiative To Improve Product Support

Initiative Involves Training 150 Maintenance Technicians and Placing Large-Scale Orders for Parts

Savannah, Ga. - Sept. 17, 2001 - General Dynamics Aviation Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE:GD), has launched a major initiative to improve product support for the owners of mid-size and super mid-size aircraft.

"Gulfstream has been recognized as the industry leader in product support by Pro Pilot for the last two years," said Larry Flynn, president of General Dynamics Aviation Services and senior vice president, Aircraft Services. "Having made this major investment in Gulfstream's service and product-support business, we are now in a position to apply these business practices to General Dynamics Aviation Services' facilities."

General Dynamics Aviation Services will also obtain FAA authorization at all of its locations to provide a full range of maintenance services to the expanded Gulfstream fleet that now includes the Gulfstream 100 and Gulfstream 200.

In order to provide customers with a trained technical support team, Gulfstream and General Dynamics Aviation Services teamed up to develop a joint maintenance-training curriculum with FlightSafety International, enrolled 150 maintenance technicians in the program, and placed large-scale orders for support equipment and parts. The equipment and parts are being shipped to 10 service centers in the combined General Dynamics Aviation Services and Gulfstream service networks.

"As we introduce and apply Gulfstream's successful business practices to our General Dynamics Aviation Services operations, we expect six service centers to be fully FAA-certified by year-end," Flynn said. "We want to provide the same award-winning, high level of service and product support at General Dynamics Aviation Services that aircraft operators have come to expect from Gulfstream." The remaining four sites will be certified next year.

Additional developments include:

· General Dynamics Aviation Services in Minneapolis, which earned the FAA Diamond Certificate of Excellence earlier this year, opened its new 57,000-square-foot hangar at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport in early August. The structure contains 31,000 square feet of hangar space and 26,000 square feet of office and support shops. The new hangar will enable GDAS to improve the level of service to its growing core of business aviation customers in the upper Midwest.

· General Dynamics Aviation Services in West Palm Beach earned its Gulfstream ratings from the FAA this year. The facility, previously limited to minor maintenance on Gulfstream business jet aircraft, is now fully authorized to perform larger repairs and to handle larger inspection packages on GIIs, GIIIs, GIVs and GVs. The other four General Dynamics Aviation Services facilities already have the Gulfstream rating.

"By upgrading our facilities, adding hangar capacity and technical expertise, we've positioned General Dynamics Aviation Services for future growth," Flynn said. "As our business grows, we are well positioned to serve the needs of our expanding customer base. We can service and support the entire fleet of Gulfstream products and apply other award-winning business practices to servicing and supporting Challengers, Falcons, Hawkers and other business jet aircraft."

General Dynamics Aviation Services was formed earlier this year to meet the maintenance needs of Challengers, Falcons, Gulfstreams, Hawkers and other business jet aircraft. General Dynamics Aviation Services extends the organizational strength and experience of the Company's Gulfstream Aircraft Services organization to a broader range of business aircraft owners through regional maintenance centers in Minneapolis, MN; Westfield, MA; West Palm Beach, FL; Dallas, TX and Las Vegas, NV.

General Dynamics, headquartered in Falls Church, Virginia, employs approximately 49,000 people and anticipates 2001 sales of approximately $11.5 billion. The company has leading market positions in business aviation, information systems, shipbuilding and marine systems, and land and amphibious combat systems.
